This month I participated in a sketchbook event through the store Atelier in historic Truckee, CA. This shop is great, they offer classes, sell art supplies, and provide a creative space for people in the Tahoe/Reno region! So, for 21 days in March, Atelier and their artistic friends have posted daily sketchbook prompts on Instagram, where all the participants were encouraged to post their art using the hashtag #sketchevent. If you use Instagram I encourage you to check it out, it's so fun to see all the different interpretations based on a single idea.
What was great about the #sketchevent was that I was pushed out of my artistic comfort zone through looking at different subject matter and using different or new techniques. I loved making a loom within the sketchbook itself and creating a weaving. Some of the prompts I wasn't that excited about initially, but after I began the sketch I really got into it. Overall, it was a fantastic experience for me, I had fun, and it gave me some fresh ideas to incorporate into my art.
The gallery opening for #sketchevent is on April 1, 2016 from 5-8 pm at Atelier Truckee, 10128 Donner Pass Road right in downtown historic Truckee and will be ongoing for the month of April. If your in the area please pop in and check it out.
